I live in a tower / vivo en una torre / ich lebe in einem turm
From may 2005 until june 2008 Hartmut Landauer lived and worked in a 250 year old tower at plaza San Antonio, high above the roofs of the historical centre of Cádiz, a 3000 year old town located on the Atlantic coast in southern Spain.
Within the three "tower years" he worked intensely on the painting cycle >memoryscapes<, on the object series >transition codex< and on the photography series >transition<.
The tower's particular architecture, design and need for renovation allowed the artist to build in several installations and improvised self built furniture that can be seen on the images below.
Knowing that he had to move out, before the tower's complete renovation in june 2008, the artist started documenting his life and work during the last weeks of his stay in this peculiar place and working space, preparing for an upcoming solo exhibition in Barcelona and his move back to Germany. The video documentary >I live in a tower/vivo en una torre/ich lebe in einem Turm< is a raw, uncut and very autobiographic video documentary (duration: 48 minutes). Landauer filmed himself without assistance, putting one scene after the other without cutting or repeating. The film is unintendedly becoming more intense towards the end due to the artist's struggle with his work, the running out of time, loneliness and approaching farewell.
